Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) and Circa Contemporary Circus have announced a three-year partnership that will further enable the ensemble to push the boundaries of the art form and grow the opportunities to present new works to audiences in Queensland.
QPAC Chief Executive John Kotzas said as part of the partnership QPAC and Circa would co-present a performance in the Playhouse each year for three years, allowing both companies to grow their audiences and deliver quality home-grown work.
“The partnership will kick off with the presentation of Circa’s five-star favourite Humans from 6 to 9 December at QPAC this year,” Mr Kotzas said.
“Circa is a trailblazer in contemporary circus and whilst we have worked together for many years, formalising a deeper relationship will result in great benefits for our industry and our audiences.
“Working more closely will provide Circa with a performance home in our Playhouse and further opportunities for public learning and audience engagement for the art form in Queensland,” Mr Kotzas said.
Circa has grown to become a phenomenal success across 39 countries, with its edgy and refreshing take on circus combined with acrobatic virtuosity and the sensibility of contemporary dance and theatre.
Created by Circa Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz and the Circa ensemble, Humans will see 10 acrobats take the audience on a stirring journey of what it means to be human by exploring the physical limits of their bodies.
Mr Lifschitz said the company was thrilled to form a partnership with QPAC, giving Circa the chance to regularly present its creations to Brisbane audiences.
“I am particularly delighted to be starting the adventure with Humans – a powerful, joyous and immediate work which has met great success internationally but until now hasn’t been seen in Brisbane,” Mr Lifschitz said.
December 6- 9, Playhouse, QPAC, Cultural Precinct, South Bank, Brisbane.
